Individual Project - New Plan on tackling Primary and Secondary Research

  • Use Secondary Research for a broader source of information, but back it up and compare with Primary Research. Generalising is a problem that I will run into without the proper research.

  • A lot of the answers I receive will be biased, as I intend to ask the NextGen course. This will mean that any answers I receive will only reflect this very specific group, although it could be linked to other close-knit cohorts of college students of similar age.

  • About Characters questions:

    • NextGen is most likely a majority male group, so online information will be needed to complete this point of interest.

    • The gender of the survey taker may affect some of the answers, although without doing a survey, I will not know this for certain.

      • As a girl who had other female friends in a close-knit group, growing up, we tended to gravitate towards games in which we could create our own characters. However, this may not be the preference of the majority, and it may differ depending on the dynamic/interests of friend groups.

      • Another interesting point to consider is age, which may play a role in the types of games people like to play.

  • About Multiplayer questions:

    • The age range of the survey takers may affect the results, as younger people are typically more attached to their phones and other devices that they could play games/connect to the internet on.

    • College students on a Games/VFX course are going to yield rather biased results, as there’s a good chance that the majority of them game to some degree, and they may all be playing the same games with each other if this is the case.

      • This would need a survey to evidence, but it is important to consider that friends recommend games to each other, and co-op/ multiplayer games are more likely to attract attention in friend groups.
