Animation Development

I found a fun interview on Skwigly, which was with Roger Mainwood, the Director, and Robin Shaw, the art director of the animated film called Ethel and Ernest. The film is about two people who fell in love and got married, and their lives through WW2. This was originally a book, written by the two characters' son, who was an illustrator and story writer. He is most well known for his book (Which is also animated) called The Snowman.

The link to the podcast is below. In the podcast, they talk about other films and their thoughts on them:

We also had to find an animation that showed an understanding of using music to further the emotions and feeling. Ironically, the animation I chose is an animation showing how maths applies to nature and the world around us. The video is called Nature by Numbers, and it was created by Cristobal Vila.

The music adds a lot of emotion to the video, and makes the whole thing come to life. It's odd, that the music has such an effect on an animation which is all about something apathetic and logical like maths.

The music also makes the viewer realise how logical everything is, yet that it can also have emotion. Vila deals with the sound by making sure that the animation is in time, making everything about the video feel connected instead of detached and apart like logic and creativity.
