Today, we practiced our skills in Maya. We learned how to bevel objects and alter the settings of it, as well as how to extrude certain parts of a cube.
Extruding an objects makes it stick out or recede into the objects further. Examples of how I used this today is when I was modeling a crate. The outside planks of a crate stick out more than the others, so I offset it by 5cm and then re selected it to extrude into it -2.5cm.
I also used the extrude tool to help create the keys of the keyboard and the screen of the computer monitor.
Bevelling objects makes the edges appear smooth. However, since Maya works with polygon shapes, it's not a smooth curve at first. It can be adjusted in a pop up menu, to make it appear smoother.
